According to The Wall Street Journal, Vietnamese government authorities have revoked an investment license granted to Taiwan's foxconn group to build a 200 million yuan mobile phone manufacturing plant in Vietnam. On the surface, the Vietnamese government rejected Foxconn, but in essence, it was Foxconn that snubbed the Vietnamese people. In fact, for a country with a rapidly growing population and a relatively low educated and unskilled youth population, foxconn's allure is so overwhelming that a single assembly line for the IPHONE could directly create 500 jobs, and those 500 jobs are said to create as many as 750 jobs, they cut hair, steamed buns, boiled eggs, rented apartments and prepared condoms for foxconn employees... the government welcomed Foxconn everywhere it went, and Vietnam was no exception. The cancellation of the mobile phone project was due more to the slow pace of the project, which left local authorities with little hope, and to the fact that other companies had submitted investment reports. As Labour costs continue to rise at Chinese mainland, world renowned companies such as Foxconn and Samsung have had to start planning to build factories in South East Asia in the hope of finding cheaper labour. Frankly speaking, the 200 million yuan investment alone in the mobile phone assembly plant that Foxconn plans to open in Vietnam is not very important, and it can not even catch up with the investment in a district of the Zhengzhou aviation mobile phone production base, but the significance of the project is to verify the assembly capacity of mobile phones in Vietnam and the efficiency of the supporting supply chain. Fortunately, the validation didn't take shape, which is good news for Chinese mainland. At the very least, the failure of Foxconn's mobile phone project in Vietnam will slow the mainland's production of southeast flights to some extent, leaving some breathing room. FOXCONN SNUBS VIETNAM? In fact, Foxconn has been in contact with Vietnamese authorities as early as 2008, and has built several factories in northern Vietnam, including in Bac Ninh and BẮC Giang, to produce monitors and computer parts, it has around 5,000 people, strictly observes the law, has enough insurance for its employees, is a good local business, and, more importantly, Vietnam has one of the lowest wages in the world, their average wage in 2013 was 1,300 yuan, the average wage in private enterprises was 1,160 yuan, and the minimum wage that year was 720 yuan. For the same job, the wages of assembly line workers in Chinese mainland, the company broke through 1800 yuan, 2000 yuan and so on.
